Wuxi Taigong Sanatorium, located on Zhongdu Mountain Island in Yuantouzhu Scenic Area of the Taihu Lake Lake, was founded in 1952 and invested by the All China Federation of Trade Unions. The sanatorium covers an area of 127700 square meters with a building area of approximately 20000 square meters. Surrounded by water on all sides, the environment is beautiful and the air is fresh. It is a comprehensive sanatorium that integrates recuperation, physical examination, rehabilitation, business travel, and leisure vacation. Its design and construction were divided into two phases: Yuanshan Tower and Hongyuan Tower were designed by Shen Yuankai and completed in 1952; The Yanbo Zhishuang Building was designed by Xu Keqin and completed from 1953 to 1954. The design of these buildings fully respects the site, integrates into the natural environment, and embodies the design concept of "although created by humans, it is like opening from heaven". The Yanbo Zhishuang Building adopts a palace style with green tiles, gray walls, and upturned eaves, and is one of the few buildings in Wuxi that combines the styles of northern and southern ethnic groups.

As one of the "20th century architectural heritages of China", the Taigong Sanatorium has undergone multiple repairs and facility upgrades since 2017 while preserving its architectural style. The island wide lighting project, landscape renovation project, traffic route sorting, building renovation and upgrading of guest rooms not only enhance the functionality, but also fully reflect the protection and cultural heritage of historical buildings. This renovation method not only revitalizes old buildings with new vitality, but also leaves precious cultural memories for the city.
